Hello. It looks like all the posts in this group are older. Is anyone considering single parent adoption? I am and would like someone to talk to, as well as bounce ideas off of.

Wishing everyone a fantastic New Year.  Just renewed my homestudy and studying up on attachment and other issues common to adoption.  Pursuing open adoption.  Looking forward to learning more from people here.

Hi, I am just joining this. I have thought about adoption for many years but was with a partner who did not want children. I am single now, and while I would prefer to have a partner to embark on this, I am seriously considering single parent adoption. I am also a therapist (clinical social worker) and in the past have worked for years with foster and adoptive families, completing homestudies, etc. so I feel like I am familiar with the process in some ways.  I think that some of my family will not support it, but I don't want that to stop me. Looking forward to hearing people's stories and experiences!

LaToya - Thank you!   I was a step-mom and foster parent for a while so I understand attachments and bonding but there's almost more to learn.  Guess I'm a little afraid of the age - going for a teenager.  I just see them as needing someone too...maybe even more so.  I hope your second adoption smooths out and is a wonderful experience for you!

Hi Tammy! Welcome... My only advice would be to be patient and persistent. I have adopted 1 child and I am in the process of adopting a second (which is legal risk and has me pulling my hair out). Make sure you do a lot of research on attachment and bonding. That is important. With my oldest son, who is now 6, we had to do a bit of attachment and bonding exercises. Give lots of hugs and reassurance.

With only one more class to go - I can finally start to see adoption as reality.  Any great advice for a single parent looking to adopt an 8 and up year old?

Hi, I am looking at foster adoption primarily. Also considering embryo adoption, anyone have experience or information about this?

Hi, I'm hoping to adopt one more little girl from Los Angeles County (foster/adopt) and have been waiting for two years now since my last adoption from the County was completed. Although assured it will happen soon (been told this for one year), I am wondering if there is an agency in this area that would be faster? Help, I feel our lives are on hold.
